Final Digipak

Final music video

here is the completed version of my music video
there have been changes through out the rough cut of the music video to lead up to the final video we had fun filming and editing the video enjoy

Final magazine Advert

here is the final magazine advert  the advert is very simplistic but also have a fun vibe to it to reflect the artist herself . unlike the digipak the name of the artist and the name of the album are of a similar size . The name of the album songs in motion is slightly tilted to mimic the songs in motions
whilst the title is cartooned and bold to fit in with the theme of the magazine advert .
we have included when the album will be released and details of the album. in addition we have included critics reviews
layout

The lay out  and effects was inspired by pop art .  i like the playfulness and the youthfulness of the image i wanted to imitate this in our mag advert

the colour grading  was also inspired by pop art particularly the Marilyn Monroe  image  the way her make up shows on her face is similar to ours

Evaluation 3 What have you learned from your audience feedback?

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
for our evaluation task we interviewed people who fit into our target market we interviewed them to receive audience feedback we asked them various questions linking to our video in order to obtain this. in addition we also asked people what they thought about our digipak and our magazine advert. we thought it was essential to obtain this information as it could open our eyes to improvements that may need to be made to the music video. and how our target market may feel about our artist and whether we have been successful in the post production stage . the feedback given would hopefully be successful in answering these questions
we decided to film the viewers as we could receive their comments in depth and experiment with different types of media for our evaluations.

we interviewed Akshay and Stacey in hope to receive information about our digipak. from their feedback we found out that we have been successful in keeping a concise motif throughout our digipak and that our entire package as in the digipak ,advert and music video all ties in together . they liked the use of effects used which was successful as we did not want to over due it  ,we wanted to keep the digipak simple but make the aesthetics appealing to the audience, so that they would want to purchase the album. for our magazine advert we have been successful in informing the audience and have included the right information to do so we have kept the same theme throughout our digipak and magazine advert .
i interviewed David and Bradley on what they thought of my music video .  from this interview i have discovered that they thought the effects were effective and that i had achieved some of the meaning of the lyrics with the effects. i have been successful in keeping them engaged as my editing was not predictable . they liked the use of the overlay effect  it has been successful as i wanted it to stand out to the viewers . they thought the artist was successful in conveying the meaning of the song and was confident which can be appealing to the viewers

we interviewed the older part of our target market  from her feed back she thought that the editing of the video was effective such as the cross cutting from different locations she additionally liked the effects such as the overlaying and colour grading . she enjoyed the play on the instrumental part of the song where we had a continuous shot over-layed on different shots of the artist dancing as we thought that the music and the visuals would correspond well in this scene . she thought that the artist engaged well with the camera and her movements flowed through out the video .
I interviewed Rebecca to get her feed back on my music video she made some interesting comments on the artist and how she was an inviting character and made her feel like she was bringing her into her own world from this we can see that the artist has built a  successful rapport with the viewers

i interviewed Akshay and stacey again about their opinions on the music video

Goodwins point analysis

Relationship between lyrics  and the visuals

There are many times where we have synched the visuals with the lyrics in our music video.
The song is about constant surprises and how they may not always be planned i mimicked the constant surprises with the effects that take place through out the music video

at 1.25 In the music video the visuals correspond with the lyrics as the artist sings 'the higher forces want to connect' the camera pans upwards mimicking the lyrics this is accompanied by a colour grading effect to represent the higher forces
connecting .

At 1.35 the artist sings 'you know who you are were you dreaming too?' i used a colour grading and overlay effect within final cut express  to mimic the lyrics to give the visual a dream like effect

When the artist sings 'then on my way home i met this guy'  the visuals display the artist walking home over-layed on the artist singing at that moment

Another example of when the visuals correspond with the lyrics is at 0.25 the artist sings 'I was walking home looking at the trees' the visuals show the artist walking through the trees.

there were parts of the instrumental that were illustrated by the visuals i used an overlay effect to reflect the long instrumental played it is frantic an

Relationship between the music and the visuals

The song constant surprises has a strong beat and a medium tempo the instrumentals are over-layed which gives the song various rhythms  which helps vary the pace of the editing

The relationship between the music and the visuals can be seen through the pace of the editing of the music video whether i have used colour grading to mimic the beat or the pace of the visuals/footage shown the strong editing to the beat can be seen in parts of the chorus

To  the left is where the  fast editing to the beat can be seen. The editing cross cuts between the two different scenes; one scene is where the artist is engaging with the camera and the other is of the artist singing. the editing is fast pace and the duration between the clips is 1 second

Are they any close ups of the artist star image motifs ?

Yes there are close ups and mid-shot's used within the music video .As the artist is new we wanted to introduce her to the audience ;by adding close-ups as we are helping to sell the artist to the public by using these shots we are giving the artist maximum exposure the.artist image is innocent  as she is young we decided to portray her this way so she was not provocative but flirty and engaged with the camera .

Is there reference to the notion of looking ?

the artist engages with the camera throughout most of the video she is engaging with the audience and performing for them  there are times within the music video where the camera may pan up and down over the artist however the artist is not on sexual display through out the video her innocence is still preserved the costume that the artist is wearing is not revealing as the artist

camera panning up and down the artist

the panning of the camera could suggest the view of a male gaze .

Are there intertextual references ?
yes there are intertextual references to the war on drugs come to the city  with the overlay effect used i  incorporated it in my music video  over certain scenes whether to reflect the visuals with the lyrics or to demonstrate the music
the overlay effect used on come to the city

Is the music video performance - based , narrative- based or concept based ?
the music video is a mixture narrative and performance based  their are parts where the artist is just playing with the camera reflecting the lyrics  or dancing around to the music and other times the artist is communicating the song to the audience .

Vernallis Analysis:
Editing:
-the video is consistent when editing to the beat either with the effects that may correspond with the beat or the actual timing of the shots and or movement
-  Break the continuity editing, throughout the video there are random edits that cross cuts from different scenes
Narrative is consistent the narrative is fragmented but is consistent throughout keeping the scenery interlocked with each other

Camera movement and framing:
Extreme shots there are extreme shots of the artist's eyes and lips
-her body movements are in sync with the beat

- Establishing shot of the woods, are established at the beginning of the video  there are various shots of the artist from extreme close ups to mid-shots and long shots

Diegesis:
- the artist moves to the music and does not remain static she has scenes where the camera is focused on her dancing though there is no set choreography
- there are repetition of shots so that it links together and flows this may add to the continuity

final ideas for digipak and magazine advert

Here are some final ideas for our magazine advert and for the outside of the digipak i like the use of colour and the artistic effects such as the scribbles. however i could reduce the amount put on the front maybe result to another sort of scribble like swirls or hearts . in addition the artist's name needs to be more visible . For the digipak i could change the font for the album title and also mention when the album is coming out ;like stating out 12th December instead of  12th December. in addition i could readjust the pictures so the artist's name is more visible .

rough cut 2

Here is the second rough cut
From the previous rough cut i have
-made the editing more consistent for eg. if i have an overlay effect occurring, instead of cutting it off randomly in the video i have inserted a clip of the artist in-between  so that it is not so sudden and more cross cutting is included to improve the editing  .
-i  have replicated certain effects so that it is not so random .
-i have experimented more with the wire-frames to make the edit to the beat more interesting
- i have experimented more with the colour grading to make the edit more interesting and to have the theme of constant surprises constantly flowing through
- i have gotten rid of the excess audio that is not part of the music instrumental

changes that still need to be made
i need to change the scenes with the brick wall either make them more interesting to fit in with the rest of the video or totally strip it hopefully i can find a place in between as it varies the locations

possible photos for digipak

Here are some of the pictures taken for the digipak some have already been pre-edited there are a range of poses and shots some would be more suitable for the front of the digipak where as others may be more suitable for the different sections such as the back and inside covers
the make up is sixties inspired whereas the artist's outfit is styled more towards  neo-soul centric with some added hippie influence .

music video rough cut

Here is my rough cut for my music video there are certain things that need to be improved such as consistency with the edit and effects . furthermore i can experiment with the effects and framing of the screen so that it matches the beat .and the jump cuts
i should also remove the random effects at the end of the footage and replace it with something else so that it looks more professional in addition for my next cut i will try to improve the lip sync and when exporting the video i should make sure that the settings are correct so that i can get the best quality and the audio needs to be edited so that no sounds for the actual footage can be heard

Azealia banks 1991 analysis

Azealia banks 1991 video is a retro themed music video the genre of the song is hip-hop 1991 signifies the year of her birth
the music video opens up with a shot of a camera lens, this creates the sense that she is being watched by someone ( a voyeur) and azealia continues to play  to the camera  and engage with it  through out the music video.  As the instrumental continues there are various shots of her body parts as the camera pans across playing with the male gaze and show casing the artist .
the fishnet tights are more alluring and  provocative as she showcases her legs to the camera  the editing remains consistent as the short instrumental plays

however as the song begins with the lyrics the editing begins to speed up and becomes more rapid showing various locations of the artist to the beat . 0:026 the artist fits the conventions of a hip hop / rap video as she is show casing beats by Dre headphones marketing them to viewers  as the video continues Azealia continues to engage with the camera she is aware that she is being watched and continues to play with the camera . as the video continues there seems to be no clear narrative or of visuals that amplify the lyrics as the song continues the  editing begins to pick up with a range of rapid shots that match the beat of the song . the editing of the video is very effective as it keeps the viewers engaged and helps with the progression of the song it, additionally adds a playfulness to the video as azealia is not a serious character and likes to be playful in a range of her videos  . we could add a playfulness to the editing to our music video as like azealia's 1991 the song constant surprises has a strong beat that you can edit to
as the song is 1991 the theme of the video matches the retro theme  going back to the old fashion conventions that you would see in a less current hip hop video

the outfit that she is wearing is revealing and showcases her body playing to the voyeurism of the video  we as viewers get the feeling that she is enjoying being watched as she is constantly engaged with the camera they are  selling and promoting her as an artist  .
the video showcases intertextuality the video 1991 uses dancers that move and are clothed like Madonna's dancers in the  vogue video.  likewise azealia banks is dressed like Madonna in the vogue video
"Pre-Madonna Mama, like a virgin" she has made reference to Madonna in her lyrics this could suggest the influence on the video  however azealia takes a new spin on the out fit modernizing it and making it more revealing the dance routine in 1991 is additionally similar to the dance routine in  Madonna's Vogue however she makes it more current  giving it a hip hop spin . she uses some more shots similar to madonnna's vogue video . she showcases confidence throughout the video  as from the lyrics she describes herself as a confident character and conveys this across through out the video
"Young tender from the NYC
No contender none in my league" she is the center of attention throughout the video

there is more intertextuality with more reference to Madonna's iconic vogue video with the similar shot using a mirror to create a reflection
