Relationship between lyrics  and the visuals

There are many times where we have synched the visuals with the lyrics in our music video.
The song is about constant surprises and how they may not always be planned i mimicked the constant surprises with the effects that take place through out the music video

at 1.25 In the music video the visuals correspond with the lyrics as the artist sings 'the higher forces want to connect' the camera pans upwards mimicking the lyrics this is accompanied by a colour grading effect to represent the higher forces
connecting .

At 1.35 the artist sings 'you know who you are were you dreaming too?' i used a colour grading and overlay effect within final cut express  to mimic the lyrics to give the visual a dream like effect

When the artist sings 'then on my way home i met this guy'  the visuals display the artist walking home over-layed on the artist singing at that moment

Another example of when the visuals correspond with the lyrics is at 0.25 the artist sings 'I was walking home looking at the trees' the visuals show the artist walking through the trees.

there were parts of the instrumental that were illustrated by the visuals i used an overlay effect to reflect the long instrumental played it is frantic an

Relationship between the music and the visuals

The song constant surprises has a strong beat and a medium tempo the instrumentals are over-layed which gives the song various rhythms  which helps vary the pace of the editing

The relationship between the music and the visuals can be seen through the pace of the editing of the music video whether i have used colour grading to mimic the beat or the pace of the visuals/footage shown the strong editing to the beat can be seen in parts of the chorus

To  the left is where the  fast editing to the beat can be seen. The editing cross cuts between the two different scenes; one scene is where the artist is engaging with the camera and the other is of the artist singing. the editing is fast pace and the duration between the clips is 1 second

Are they any close ups of the artist star image motifs ?

Yes there are close ups and mid-shot's used within the music video .As the artist is new we wanted to introduce her to the audience ;by adding close-ups as we are helping to sell the artist to the public by using these shots we are giving the artist maximum exposure the.artist image is innocent  as she is young we decided to portray her this way so she was not provocative but flirty and engaged with the camera .

Is there reference to the notion of looking ?

the artist engages with the camera throughout most of the video she is engaging with the audience and performing for them  there are times within the music video where the camera may pan up and down over the artist however the artist is not on sexual display through out the video her innocence is still preserved the costume that the artist is wearing is not revealing as the artist

camera panning up and down the artist

the panning of the camera could suggest the view of a male gaze .

Are there intertextual references ?
yes there are intertextual references to the war on drugs come to the city  with the overlay effect used i  incorporated it in my music video  over certain scenes whether to reflect the visuals with the lyrics or to demonstrate the music
the overlay effect used on come to the city

Is the music video performance - based , narrative- based or concept based ?
the music video is a mixture narrative and performance based  their are parts where the artist is just playing with the camera reflecting the lyrics  or dancing around to the music and other times the artist is communicating the song to the audience .

Vernallis Analysis:
Editing:
-the video is consistent when editing to the beat either with the effects that may correspond with the beat or the actual timing of the shots and or movement
-  Break the continuity editing, throughout the video there are random edits that cross cuts from different scenes
Narrative is consistent the narrative is fragmented but is consistent throughout keeping the scenery interlocked with each other

Camera movement and framing:
Extreme shots there are extreme shots of the artist's eyes and lips
-her body movements are in sync with the beat

- Establishing shot of the woods, are established at the beginning of the video  there are various shots of the artist from extreme close ups to mid-shots and long shots

Diegesis:
- the artist moves to the music and does not remain static she has scenes where the camera is focused on her dancing though there is no set choreography
- there are repetition of shots so that it links together and flows this may add to the continuity
